LA Lakers (2/3) - The Los Angeles Lakers are definitely the clear cut favourite to win the NBA Western Conference championship, if not the entire NBA championship as well. The Lakers fresh off of a 2008/2009 NBA championship, added more depth to their lineup in the form of veteran Ron Artest, who has had a solid season thus far for the Lakers. A solid foundation with players such as Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Derek Fisher will always give the Lakers a chance to win so long as they are wearing the gold and blue. Look for the Lakers to power their way to the NBA finals once again this season. A downfall to betting on the Lakers to win the 09/10 Western Conference Championship is that the payout will not be very big. Dallas Mavericks (8/1) - My second prediction for the 2009/2010 Western Conference Champions is the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks have crept their way up the Western standings throughout the year and currently sit at a record of 23-11. They sit 2nd in the West behind the Lakers, but have the rare combination of equally strong play at home and on the road. The Mavericks are 1 of only 3 Western Conference teams to have a road record of above .500, and are lead by 2 proven veterans; Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitzki. I look for the Mavericks to be the surprise underdog in this year's playoffs, possibly being the 2009/2010 Western Conference Champions.
